The Maryland CTA organizes a nationally recognized Horse Trials
in May at Shawan Downs in Hunt Valley, Maryland. This competition offers
all levels, Novice through Advanced. The club also manages two "unrecognized"
horse trials. One in June in Southern Maryland -- the Starter Horse Trials and one in November held at Tranquility Manor Farm in Jacksonville Maryland.
"Jenny Camp" as the fall horse trials is known, is one of the
oldest competitions of its kind in our area.
Clinics are organized with Stephen Bradley, Sally Cousins, Denny Emerson,
Lucinda Green, Gayle Molander, Sharon White, Debbie Wilson, Jimmy Wofford
and others. Seminars and unmounted clinics are held during the winter. An
Annual Banquet is held at the end of the year to get together and award
the Year End Awards.
The Annual Year End Awards are presented at all levels; from Horse of the
Year (both Junior and Senior) recognizing horses at the recognized levels;
to the Elementary and Beginner Novice unrecognized levels. Ribbons and trophies
are awarded. Over $1000 worth of Scholarships are granted by the Grants
Committee on the basis of dedication to the sport, volunteerism, interest
in the sport and unique needs.
Membership offers opportunities to compete at reduced rates in MCTA sponsored
happenings; attend clinics, lectures and instructional programs for free
or almost free; help organize MCTA activities; compete for the High Score
Awards; apply for the Grants, receive the newsletter and the comprehensive
Maryland Area Calendar of Events; receive the only comprehensive listing
of area unrecognized competitions, the MCTA Unrecognized Omnibus, and meet
and work with people with a shared interest in horses and eventing.
