Volunteers Make it Happen
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
to the 2012 Volunteers for the MCTA Horse Trials at Shawan Downs
Organizers Patti Fenwick and Ami Howard want to thank all the people who volunteered in so many ways on May 7th or 8th. There are two fundamental equations in combined training:
NO VOLUNTEERS = NO EVENT; GREAT VOLUNTEERS = GREAT EVENT
And the TD thought all of you were pretty great because things ran so smoothly all weekend. It’s just amazing, isn’t it, how 149 people (plus a few more we’ve undoubtedly missed) from all walks of life can come together in a beautiful setting on one weekend in May to pull off something as complicated as a 5-level horse trial apparently seamlessly.
Competitors, please take note: It took 149 people working very hard for free so that the 250 of you could ride in this event. Have you done your share of volunteering???
So thanks again to the whole gang:

Attention Eventers! (updated)
Both of our local dressage associations have added eventing tests to their schooling shows this year!
How many times have you missed out on a placing because of a bum dressage score? And since dressage really is the basis of all training (even if you’d rather not believe it) deficiencies in that area probably accounted for the glance-off at the skinny that ruined your otherwise perfect cross country and kept you from gathering your horse enough to avoid that rail in the triple that broke the tie against you too. But take heart: there’s GOOD NEWS for 2012!
You can now practice the all-important first phase at both Potomac Valley Dressage Association (Washington suburbs and Eastern Shore) and Maryland Dressage Association (north of Baltimore area) schooling shows.
Information and a list of MDA shows was posted here last week and is available at www.marylandressage.org
by clicking on the “Shows/Events” tab.
PVDA will be offering all the eventing tests, from Beginner Novice through Advanced, and will give high scores awards for them at the end of the year. Take a look at the list of 29 (!) shows below and then go to www.pvda.org
for more information. Click on the “Show Information” tab and then “2012 Omnibus” on the right side.
